PAPSA RENEWS BIELSA-ARAGNOUET TUNNEL MAINTENANCE CONTRACT

The EGTC (European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation) Pirineos-Pyrénées has awarded PAPSA the works of conservation, maintenance and operation of the Bielsa-Aragnouet Tunnel and its accesses, for the years 2024-2027. This tunnel is a very important Spanish-French infrastructure in the northern part of Aragon, through which around 2,300 vehicles and some 80 trucks circulate daily, making it a basic element for relations between the two countries. The tunnel connects the Spanish A-138 road with the French RD-173.

PAPSA’s activity will continue to include both winter maintenance work and the comprehensive maintenance of the 3,070 meters of the cross-border tunnel. This tunnel, with a longitudinal profile executed by means of a 5% ramp, has an elevation of 1,664 meters at the Spanish entrance and 1,821 meters at the French entrance. The cross section of the tunnel is composed of two lanes, each with a length of 3 meters. In addition, the keystone height is 5.38 meters and the established clearance gauge is 4.3 meters.

For this activity, the EGTC has approved a total investment of 4,412,870 €. The conservation contract came into force in June of this year, with an expected duration of 36 months, plus another 24 months of extension, and with a final value of approximately 8.5 million euros.
